Work out what each load of washing and drying really costs in energy, water and detergent.
How this works
A washing machine uses about 0.35 kWh at 20 °C, 0.55 at 30 °C, 0.8 at 40 °C and 1.3 at 60 °C, since most energy goes into heating water. A heat pump dryer uses about 1.5 kWh a load, a vented or condenser dryer about 4.5 kWh. Modern machines use around 50 L of water.
